“My husband is still not out of the woods, but I am thankful that research continues.”
For Elaine, cancer isn’t just a word—it’s a battle she has faced time and time again. She has watched her loved ones endure its devastating grip, witnessing both heartbreaking losses and incredible resilience.
Her sister fought a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Her closest friends endured grueling treatments for aggressive breast cancer. And just last year, her own husband was diagnosed with oral cancer—turning their world upside down in an instant.
“There have been great improvements in outcomes for cancer patients, but so much more needs to be done,” says Elaine.

She knows firsthand how a cancer diagnosis can feel like being sucked into a vortex, leaving you breathless, overwhelmed, and searching for hope. But rather than stand by, she has chosen to take action.
In 2023, Elaine hosted her first Longest Table event, bringing her community together in the fight against cancer. For her, it’s more than just a fundraising dinner—it’s a beacon of hope for families like hers.
“I am doing all I can to raise funds to help, and I look forward to the day when a cancer diagnosis no longer brings that crushing fear.”
Elaine’s story is a powerful reminder of why research matters—why we can’t stop now. Every dollar raised, every meal shared, every conversation sparked at a Longest Table event brings us closer to the day where cancer is no longer a life sentence.
