I'm helping to #ForkCancer by hosting a Longest Table!

This July, I’m hosting a Longest Table to raise money for cancer research.

Cancer has affected everyone in some way and for years I have avoided thinking about it, let alone talking about my story. I want to share how cancer has affected my life, so that you understand how much this charity night means to me.

In October of 2018 my partner was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is a type of blood cancer that progresses rapidly and requires urgent treatment.

At just 22, he had his whole life ahead of him and was healthy and happy. Anyone who knew him would tell you just how ambitious and driven for life he was.

He fought the most cruel and unfair fight.

Over 5 months Reece endured chemotherapy, radiation and targeted therapy, ICU, an induced coma, lumbar punctures, haemodialysis, hundreds of blood counts, and bone marrow biopsies.

Nothing saved him and we lost him in January of 2019.

I truly believe that if there was a cure for cancer, he would have knocked his diagnosis out of the park.

This has been the most difficult time of my life and now I feel I am ready to share my story to help other people going through a similar experience and to take away some of the stigma around cancer.

Having moved into the finance industry, I am rediscovering myself and my drive to do more has taken off. I feel that I now owe it to speak up about cancer and the way it affects so many of us. In a perfect world, no one would lose their battle.
